Introduction

"Oh great... another teen success book that promises the world. That's just what I need."

If you’ve had that thought before, then we already have something in common. But before you put this book down, let us tell you one thing:

This is not a book of “good ideas.”

This book doesn’t tell you how to live your life. Far from it. This book includes what we call the timeless “ingredients of success.” Just like there’s a recipe for your favorite dish, there’s a recipe for achievement, too. We don’t know about you, but we wouldn’t get comfortable in our favorite chair to read an entire cookbook . . . but a recipe for success? We’ll devour that!

So, how could there be a recipe for success? Well, there are very specific trends, patterns, and similarities in the way successful people live their lives. They have developed very similar skills and habits that we can all learn from (the “success ingredients”).

Have you ever wondered why some individuals have so much happiness, energy, money, respect, and great friendships? Were they born with extra talent and abilities? Some people believe this, but we didn’t buy it. Instead, we discovered:

Successes are not born; they’re made.

It’s true. We don’t start out with the finely tuned skills we need to create the life we want. We must learn them as we go through life. However, we can fast-track our journey by applying the “recipe of achievement” from those who have already accomplished outstanding results.

What you’re saying is great, but this isn’t for me.
I’m different . . . I’m in a very unique situation.

If only we were given a dime for every time we heard that! The truth is, we used to think the same thing. “How could somebody else’s life be similar to mine?” And, “How would somebody else know about my challenges and what I need to do to turn my life around?” You’re right, we’re all faced with unique situations, and we all have our own definitions of success, but the tools we need to get from where we are to where we want to be are universal.

It doesn’t matter what your unique goals are. Maybe you want to ace an upcoming test, get straight A’s in school, become a famous rock star, a world-class athlete, a multimillionaire, a successful entrepreneur, or even become the President. If you learn the principles of success--especially as a teenager--and practice them every day, they will transform your life.

The principles always work if you work the principles.

Testimonials

“The Success Principles for Teens is so empowering. I struggle with the concept of possible failure but this book really helps me to be positive and persevere. Any teen would benefit greatly from this information. I highly recommend it. 5 stars!”

- Kaylie Clendenon, 17 years old, 11th grade

“Teens will definitely relate to this book. Healy and Canfield have done an excellent job in writing about the things teenagers need and want to know about succeeding in life. The book is filled with real-life examples, amusing illustrations, and space for writing one's personal challenges. This book is like a mentor for teens.”

– Kara Bluntach, Career counselor

"Okay, I know what you’re thinking….”This is just another teen success book to make me feel as if my life is miserable…”  WRONG! The Success Principles for Teens does not tell you that your life is miserable.  It gives you steps to make your dizziest day dreams come true.  It will not only give you confidence, but it will make you feel so much better about yourself.  Now, if I were you, I would go grab some coffee and open this book and start my journey into complete success.  Trust me, you won’t regret it!"

- Bita Khaleghi, 16 yrs old, 10th grade

"I am not one to shy away from the truth.  I say what goes through my head--and many great ideas went through my head as I read The Success Principles for Teens.  I'm not one to pick up a book like this, honestly, but everything happens for a reason and this was well worth it.  It is a life-changing book... there's really no other explanation.  Pick it up!  Take a chance."

- Alex Aponte, 16

"I am a Speech-Language Pathologist, working with many teens who are challenged by learning disabilities.  I also am the mother of two college students, both of whom are working hard and making their dreams into realities (and one of whom had to overcome his own challenges to reach for success).  "Success Principles for Teens" is a no-nonsense, inspiring, how-to handbook for moving step-by-step towards a can-do future.  But don't think it is only for teens.  I am in my mid-50's and I am working on the activities in this book to increase my effectiveness in work and my personal life.  Pick it up and start reading.  You won't be able to put it down, as you move through the real-life stories that illustrate the "Principles.""

- Joanne Hein, MS, CCC

"Wow, I devoured the book "The Success Principles for teens" in 3 days and I am absolutely amazed how you are able to attack EVERY SINGLE negativity a teenager could possibly have. That fear, excuse, or problem - all answered. I have to admit, besides completely revamping my whole outlook on life, this IS the best book I've read in all of school. Thank you!"

- Alex Li, 16

"This book is great for the practical steps to take to achieving what you want. I really like all the real life stories incorporated into each chapter, it gives the reader a better understanding that fits your daily life. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!"

- Mathew Egan
